Courageous activists blocked in Egypt in their aid mission to Gaza

A group of pro-Palestine activists called as North African Aid Convoy had recently been stopped in Egypt by the authorities from reaching their mission in sending aids to Gaza. Those activists joining in the convoy were coming from Morocco, Algeria and Europe travelled to Cairo before they were being detained.

One of the activists in his video recorded through his mobile phone expressed his frustration with the situation, as they come to the country to show solidarity with Gaza and call for the lifting of the siege.

“After our arrival with valid ticket and visa, and everything seemingly in order, they detained us for three hours. Some people were allowed entry. But, on our flight 12 people were sent back. That is not the conduct of a respectable state. It is closer to the conduct of a thug regime.

“These activists wouldn’t have come to Egypt if this country had done its job and fulfilled its duty to lift the siege on Gaza. And even after failing to do so, they still prevented others from applying pressure to lift that siege. Peace be upon you,” he testified after enduring the situation.

It was believed that the situation happened after Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz made the call on Egypt to block the convoy from reaching the border of Gaza.

The spokesperson for Egypt government told that the people those intending to visit the border must apply for permits to visit the border area.

Previously, Israel had intercepted the Madleen ship in international waters; deporting some of the crew members and two others remained in detention, as they carried aid with Freedom Flotilla Coalition for the people of Gaza.
